Temple Israel is an egalitarian congregation of over 450 families, affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. We are the largest conservative synagogue in the Boston Metrowest area. Approximately 150 students attend our religious school, with some 50 students attending local Jewish day schools and close to 60 students attending the Prozdor Hebrew High School. Over 160 young people are involved in our USY programs, with chapter members elected to positions on the regional and international levels. Education is a focus at Temple Israel, from its bustling nursery school through broad offerings from the Adult Education Committee. Shabbat services, with over 130 lay Torah readers, reflect a culture of active and educated participation.
Temple Israel seeks an experienced, creative, dynamic, full-time, professional Youth Educator to supervise and coordinate all informal educational programming related to the congregation’s youth population in grades three through twelve. The Youth Educator will serve as a role model for our youth community and as a valued member of our professional staff, working with lay committees and Temple staff to plan, develop and ensure implementation of an integrated program of formal and informal learning activities for Temple youth. This position requires extensive weekend and evening hours, and a commitment to Conservative Judaism, its goals and values. The Youth Educator reports to the Education Director and the chairperson of the Youth and Informal Education Committee.
Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred
-Relevant experience in youth, synagogue and/or Jewish communal work
-Working knowledge of Hebrew and Judaic studies
-Strong interpersonal and writing skills, to ensure effective communication and interaction with congregants, youth and staff
-Proven organizational and administrative skills, to plan, implement and evaluate programming
-Ability to work, both independently and collaboratively, with a wide range of constituencies, to foster spiritual growth and learning within the Temple community
