Congregation Beth Sholom-Chevra Shas, a Conservative synagogue in suburban Syracuse NY, is seeking an energetic individual, with a strong Jewish background and a commitment to Jewish life, to serve as its Director of Youth and Family Programming. Though the primary focus of this position is to meet the needs of our youth (babies through college outreach), the Director should engage in synagogue-wide initiatives as well, such as outreach to young professionals, and development of intergenerational programming.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a difference in the Jewish community. While there are several programmatic requirements to be fulfilled, this job can and should be tailored to the skills, talents, and interests of the applicant. The job will begin this summer.

Main responsibilities:
Oversee, advise, and implement all informal youth programs such as Babies at Beth Sholom (our informal pre-school program for kids and their parents), Kadima and USY, and our Rosh Chodesh: It’s a Girl Thing and Good Guys program; work with youth directors throughout the Jewish community

Maintain strong connections between our college students and the congregation

Serve as coordinator and liaison between religious school and larger synagogue community, sitting in on faculty meetings and working with religious school staff to create and implement family education programs that bring together our families from both the religious school and the Syracuse Hebrew day school

Run, in collaboration with Rabbi Ain, engaging services for our kids and families-for Shabbat, the high holidays and other prime opportunities

Facilitate social action programming for our youth and families.

Serve as key staff person for congregation wide holiday celebrations

Work with congregation to create opportunities for young Jewish professionals and graduate students in the Syracuse area to integrate them into the life of CBS-CS

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required

Proven experience in Jewish youth programming and education

Computer expertise needed-comfort with Microsoft Office as well as social networking sites such as Facebook

Commitment to ideals and practices of Conservative movement in general and mission of CBS-CS in particular

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with a lay leaders, parents, staff, and youth

The ideal candidate is energetic, enthusiastic, and creative, and wants to be part of a synagogue professional team committed to creating a welcoming Jewish community in the 21st century

Strong Jewish background
