Job Available: Youth Director for Am Yisrael

Am Yisrael is affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.

Job Description

The Youth Director at Am Yisrael Congregation, in Northfield, IL, a northern suburb of Chicago, is seeking a full-time professional who will be part of a team created to inspire and encourage the congregation’s youths from third grade through high school to become actively engaged in formal and informal group activities, furthering their Jewish identity and their affiliation with the Conservative movement, both in the Chicago area and the larger region.

The individual should be a team player, innovative, flexible and passionate about Jewish life. S/he should be responsible, reliable, creative, enthusiastic, inspiring and a positive role model to the congregation’s Jewish youths.

Primary responsibilities of the Youth Director include (but are not limited to):

Create, oversee, organize all programming for Youth Groups (Chaverim/Kadima/USY). Actively recruit members for all Youth Groups, including students in the congregation’s Religious School as well as students who attend day schools.
Teach the Religious School 9th grade class on Sundays.
Enthusiastically attend all synagogue events where children are present: Shabbat services, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Purim, Shavuot, graduation/confirmation, and other events.
Help organize and implement the congregation’s Purim Carnival.
Work closely and cooperatively with the United Synagogue Youth Regional Director.
Attend congregation Board meetings and staff meetings as required.
Attend all Regional meetings and events.
Depending on the applicant’s prior experience, the Youth Director may be asked to take on other responsibilities in the Religious School.

The Youth Director must be a self starter, effective communicator, able to work within a specific budget and be able to see all projects to completion.

This is a full time position that will, at times, require weekend and evening hours. The Youth Director reports directly to the Rabbi and Executive Director. All resumes and inquires should be directed to nhnevins@amyisrael.org.
